For example if you equip the improved vents on the 1st slot you will get +6% to all crew skills whereas if you equip it on the 2nd or 3rd slot, you will get +5% to all crew skills with a message saying that it doesn't match which mean you're not getting the extra bonus. Drag it (for free) to the first slot and it will match.I took some screenshots of my Bourrasque setup.
