1 Million Follower Highway

Dakiras:   As someone who's worked with Social Media for a number of years, I looked at that and facepalmed. Buying likes is really quite counter-productive to what we're trying to achieve, because doing so means getting likes and followers that do not interact with the posts we make. It turns the number into an arbitrary thing, as opposed to being a representation of the people we can reach and engage with. We're targeting people through a portal article because we want people from the community that aren't yet following us on Facebook so that the Facebook community are actual players and fans of the games. Of course, reaching new people is good, but buying our way to do that achieves nothing. We want to bring people that are interested together.

I know that Facebook likes become somekind of measurement for public attention in PR departements. And maybe it enlarges the playerbase through a snowball effect. Apart from these two effects, WG doesn't need Facebook, because it can keep in touch with their customers via their own forums and ticket systems. So thats the importance of Facebook for Wargaming.   With regard to the special: there will be always some dissappointments. Thats because the playerbase is heterogenous - some players play high tiers, some low tiers, some do randoms, others CW, different nationalities means different preferences for specific game designs etc. Point is: players benefit differently from specials.   World of tanks is a special game: randoms are short (compared to one match in LoL or more extreme examples), game mechanic favours tactic above hand-eye reaction time (compared to CoD or other shooters). Thats why this game has a relatively old playerbase.   So now my question: why not making specials more for players who play the game 3 hours a day after work to relax and are willing (and do!) to pay for progress, because their time is limited? So why not forget this hardcore specials that are limited for 24h (and show a linear benefit curve- the more you play the more you get) and come up with specials that show a limited benefit curve (e.g. more experience for a certain number of matches).

Dakiras:   With Facebook, it's true that a lot of companies use this as a PR platform and base their performance metrics on it; however, we want to use it to reach people interested in our game. We want to interact with our playerbase even when they're not in-game or on the forums. Social media offers this connection while people are commuting to work/school, sitting in their lounge surfing the internet with a cup of tea or whatever. Our philosophy on social platforms shifts with current trends, of course, but on the whole we want to use them as a means of interaction and communication. BOTH ways, not just outward to our followers, but for our communities to reach us.   In regards to your question about changing how we do our specials, this is something I can't give a concrete answer on since the specials aren't something that I personally devise. Since we work very closely with our Product Specialists, I will pass this feedback on and see if there's some way of us coming up with some new ideas surrounding this. I can't make promises, but thank you for the feedback on that.   The 24-hour period of this special is, as I said earlier, because we wanted to do something fun for 1st May - and since that closely relates to our prediction of Facebook platform growth, we combined the two. This is additional to the missions that will take place over that weekend so in effect it's extending the period of time that there will be specials.   We know we can't please everyone because that's an unrealistic goal, but we try to shape a lot of our specials around different things and make it relevant. Constructive feedback on our specials is always appreciated so that we can forward them to the people that devise them. :)

Dakiras:   1st May is Thursday, so by the time this particular special is ending - if we cross the 1 million mark - the weekend specials will just be starting.
