Scale Model Group Build, anyone?

Дата: 17.04.2017 20:50:16
Lert: A while back a close friend handed me his tired old 1990s era 1:16 scale Tamiya King Tiger, with the instruction to 'go nuts'.   This is what it looked like when I received it:     "That's not too bad" I hear you say. And, at first glance, you're right. Soft-edge camouflage, appropriate decal, but up close the problems start to appear:     No paint on the tools and jack block, no grills on the engine vents, broken and missing exhaust pipe ...     Broken and missing headlight, nasty seam line on the barrel, splotchy and discolored, faded, flat paint job ...     Unpainted lower hull, drive sprockets and road wheels, and still fitted with the single-motor, plastic-geared clutch gearbox that Tamiya themselves discontinued well over a decade ago.   So I got to work. Repainted, replaced the broken and missing parts, replaced the plastic tow shackles with metal ones, replaced the barrel with a turned aluminum one, applied engine vent grills, replaced the single motor gearbox with dual ones with metal gears, new drive sprockets, detailed it, weathered it, applied a few washes, repurposed an old commander figure I had lying around, added some stowage, added a barrel elevation / depression drive ...   Here are the result so far:         There's still some work to do. I still need to add a mud / dust effect to the road wheels, sprockets, tracks and lower hull, still need a new electronics suite, battery, cabling and a speaker to return it to running condition with sound, but the end is in sight of this rather sizable but fun project.
