far as few years back. Some people were affected while others were
like "huh? get yourself better internet connection". I dug into it
and, lo and behold, some routing points were experiencing heavy
packet loss. And I mean heavy. This crap starts always when there
is something big going on, like holidays, sport events and such...
and always in the prime time when people are back from work.
Ectar: Just 'quoting for truth', in the literal sense. Problems
with Internet infastructure aren't restricted to the game's server.
There's interference in homes, malfunctioning modems (overheating
is an issue for many) and several nodes that may have bandwidth
issues - even before you reach the sea cables. Of course, most
of those who play online games do it during the afternoons, and
they are typically more 'demanding' customers - someone streaming
Netflix likely won't notice any throttling, because their stream is
buffering the content. There's no guarantee that your ISP is able to
get your packets a thousand kilometres, over borders, under the
sea, and through multiple vendors without causing what you
experience as 'lag' in a game.
