The HQ isn't what allows you to receive gold (I don't believe), the gold reception is automatic. What the HQ does allow you to do, however, is deploy new divisions to attack new provinces and defend old ones. They are created at the HQ, and as such if the HQ is captured, you are unable to create more divisions.
veganzombiez: To clarify, you need the HQ to receive gold. Per the
guide, the connection to the Headquarters
allows the receiving of gold from the clan's provinces that are
connected to your HQ, raising province income, and increases
the minimum bid for an auction province. A clan can purchase
a Division only if it has its Headquarters on the Global Map.
After purchase, the Division is organized in the province
with the Headquarters.
