pizzastorm: Yes this happens quite often. Just yesterday I had a game where 14 tanks went one side of the map and I was left to defend against half the team alone despite my repeated warning to the team.
You don't have to commit to a side once you are on it. Plenty of time to re position as the situation calls for.
