When you equip one the group splits. One will go into a pile with no bubble notifications and the remaining pile will have 4 in the bubble notification for 4 points. Then rinse and repeat splitting the group more until it's a full group with the points cleared.   I may be off on this a bit as I'm going from memory as I've hit Festive 10 and they stopped showing the bubble notifications. So no way for me to test and confirm.
