It certainly is not an HP sponge (maus does a better job with its armour), it barely does any damage against Tier X tanks due to low pen, it's slow, it's not a brawler since it has the most obvious/easiest frontal weakspot (even bigger than IS4's driver hatch)... I mean, what would be the rationale for WG's buffs pathway for the E-100 if it's role is "unclear/undetermined" as known by most players.
Would it be plausible if the E-100 would get just a 5mm (that's +2.5%) pen increase and we'll see how the statistics go from that point (to prevent it from being an "Imperial Death Star")?
With the current changes coming along, it's nearly impossible to kill any Tier X HT head on (except French) since weakspots are really difficult to aim (and aiming for weakspots is just the way to go for a 235mm pen gun with 0.4 accuracy).
What are the armour thickness for the new IS4M hull? Would there be an increase in side space armour for the IS4M as it now has skirts?

Just by looking at the stats for 15cm on E-100, you can tell it is not meant to snipe. And even it was meant to snipe, the game mechanics and map design doesn't allow it.
Jpz-E100 suffers from the same problem. It is not a natural progression from JTiger.
Leaving E-100 to underperform for many patches is acceptable. Making the changes that everyone has been asking for months that might make it overperform (and I have my doubts) for one patch is not acceptable?
