Snapshot: ZSU-23-4

The_Warhawk:   You know, I can't find a picture of it. From the looks of it, it never got past the design concept. The only mention I could find of it was in a 1983-1984 edition of Jane's Armor and Artillery which has an illustration of the vehicle. It looks like a VADS with a bigger gun, and illustrations of some of the other components. Namely a FLIR, VPS-2 Ranging Radar, and LSI 11M Micro-Processor. It's described as being for a requirement to defend Airbases in West Germany against Helicopter Attack and Ground based Intruders. The turret is described as a version of GE's GAU-12 gun/twin pod Stinger turret. The description of it also is a little strange in that it mentions it was to be armed with a GAU-8. Meanwhile the illustration shows that it was to be armed with a four barreled GAU-13 from a GPU-5/A gun pod and not the eight barreled GAU-8 Avenger.   The hunt for the image is on!   EDIT: Found it!
