The_Chieftain:   The problem with the armor piercing ammunition debate as it currently is being talked about is that the BATF's process of categorizing ammunition as AP or not does not include the question "Does it pierce armor." Let alone have an objective standard such as "Will penetrate 5mm of RHA steel at 100m." As a result, the current system is a bit arbitrary, and achieves little of note except irritate shooters and give the appearance of doing something. Not many people look into the details, though. After all, the name of the thing is "armor piercing ammunition ban". It surely does exactly what it says, no? To quote the ever-applicable, and I wish more people would watch it, "Yes Minister", "I explained that we are calling the White Paper Open Government because you always dispose of the difficult bit in the title. It does less harm there than on the statute books."
