culture needs the words. For example, if you have a bunch of
words to describe a concept, it is probably rather important to the
culture, than something where you only have one word for it.
There's also how language connects a culture to a location, and how
displacement, forced or otherwise, changes the culture and thus the
language.The_Chieftain: So what would it mean if the culture has no words for
a concept at all? I'm thinking, for example, of the fact that Irish
people use the words "yes" and "no" far less frequently than other
English speakers because the words do not exist in Irish. If you
think about it, they're not necessary. Interestingly, I like
the AW maps because they are generally so open, and I think port to
be one of my least favourites.
