------------------------------ A couple of comments.
Every time we do this, we tweak things a bit to find out the
sentiment of players. Instead of reading forum posts, since words
are cheap, we let players put their money where their mouths are.
Last year, we introduced the concept of the "selectable
target." Players could select which charity in particular of the
group to support, or all of them. By keeping track of this, we
could see which ones the players were most interested in
supporting. If the player didn't want to do the percentage, we
encouraged them to go to the charity directly, but there was, of
course, no way for us or the charity to figure out if it was a
redirect, or someone who was just donating "off the street", as it
were. This year, we've added another tweak. Now, on the
portal, there are hot links saying "donate directly". These link to
a fundrazr site, with a counter. If you want to do a 100% donation,
go ahead and do it. At the end of the month, we'll be able to track
how many people really like the combination of getting
personal benefit in the game with the smaller donation, vs those
who want to donate the 100% and get nothing back for themselves.
Literally, putting money where their mouths are. That should give
us all a good indication as to which perspective is in the
majority. So, buy a bundle, donate directly, or do nothing
at all, as you will. But until we get the data, it's hard to say
which is "best"
