with half-tracks when they started developing the 57mm tank
destroyer expedient. (as opposed to the ideal one, the T49). They
very quickly figured out that the 57mm did not have the punch they
needed, and abandoned it.

was nowhere near fast enough, and had a total lack of stowage
capacity.
