some evidence to suggest how the gun was perceived by the British

replace the 3in with a 17pdr but that is a different gun even if is
fires the same shell as the 76.The_Chieftain: Not surprising that they weren't used outside of Italy. It
wasn't even by choice that they were used -in- Italy, except for
that it was what was available. The British didn't want to deal
with another calibre of munition which was only going to be used by
a few tank units. 17pr was much more widely used, so with 17pr gun
tanks available, no need for the 76mm shennanigans.
