Rants and Death Traps

The_Chieftain: This conversation has made it to Zaloga's ears. You
will recall he addresses Cooper a little bit in OTT, Timestamp 15
minutes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_oLY4FOrnjc#t=902
However, he mailed me this this morning, for posting at my
request for his opinion. "I think that the basic point
that people forget about Belton Cooper’s memoirs was that they were
written decades after the event. On the occasions I spoke to him,
his memories of some of his experiences were quite sharp, but he
had no recollections at all of many other aspects of the 3rd
Armored Division in 1944-45. I also got the impression that he
conflated his own memories with stories that he had heard from
military history buffs that he knew. On top of this, “Death Traps”
was ghost-written with Mike Bennighof. Cooper’s memoirs are very
interesting, but they have some significant issues."
