The_Chieftain: "Basis" is the effect which you are trying to achieve or was called for in the specifications.   If it's the document I think it is (I have it, and the scans are looking familiar), then the characteristics sheets are to be treated with a grain of salt. I've found more authoritive documents which occasionally counter them.
