Leaving the flanks WIDE open

The_Chieftain: The enemy's gate is down. Forget about the map orientation, and
orient on the objective. Here's a counterpoint. A flank only
exists if a team draws a line on the map and says "this shall be
our line, those are our flanks". If you start on Prok Encounter on
the South, people automatically envision a line facing North, with
flanks East and West. Why? There is nothing on the west side to
draw a line to. The only reason people give is "to protect a flank"
which they invented in the first place. Hypothetical. Ignore
the west. Nothing there but trees. Take your whole damned force, go
East. Swamp whatever enemy went to the cap by force of numbers.
Then set up a new defensive line facing West. Your flanks are North
and South. Those are the flanks which you should be worried about.
in a nutshell, the rule for survival is to avoid the enemy
from attacking a unit from two directions at once. The location for
this is irrelevant. if you find yourself utterly alone on
one side of the map, consider the possibility that you are not
trying to cover the team's flank, but are instead covering the
map's flank. The map isn't playing, go catch up with your team,
where there is force of numbers.
