Why do Some Argue Against Skill Based MM?

Of course ways and means were created by certain nefarious players to hang just below that "bump up" level because each level had "level only" rewards. And then it was decided that the competitive equipment had to be segregated as well, then classes were created for those too. Top competitors in one class were usually top in any of the others they chose to compete in. So skill level can be defined by many things, as simple or complex as you want. Then there was the problem of local bias. Local competitions would determine skill standing locally. But when local top class players competed regionally, they wound up equivalent to lower classes from other regions. They could only learn the techniques to improve by playing with better players. Left in the small local circle competing against each other only, competitive improvement stalled out. Anyway, if I only ever played against my same skilled opponents, how would I learn the technique an actual good player uses to destroy me? How would I learn where good players take their HT or TD on certain maps? Watching videos or reading advice helps, but is not the same as being there trading tank damage. Better players can be destroyed, and I'm willing to be destroyed to prove that.

TeriyakiTanker: I don't think you can create a system that can't be games at all, you will never stop people from staying just below the cut off, and that is fine as long as it works for the vast majority of players.
