Gold is meant to make the game easier to level up, not turn the tide of a battle.
For example the premium you bought will make the leveling much faster and save you a lot of time.
As said above, platooning with a artillery will drag you into higher battles.
There is a matchmaking chart in the official matchmaker thread which will better show you this.
