What to do when under friendly fire?

I asked him what the deal was in chat, he didn't respond. Another player even spoke up, and asked him why he was shooting me, but no response again. He had tracked me, set me on fire, and ammo racked me, so I fired one shell to defend myself/make him reconsider his assault but he didn't have the armor to withstand it.
I know it's not cool to TK, and if I get a three day I understand, but I'm curious if I'm allowed to defend myself in such a situation. Probably not, huh? Guess I'm the bad guy.
