Mods in clans

That's how I understood it anyway.

Tanitha: Not quite mate.
A mod is a moderator
A GM is either a Game Master,. Or a Game Moderator. I believe the later is more common, IE a Game Moderator.
At WOT there is three mod ranks.
Chat moderator.
Has game moderator status.
Moderator.
Has forum moderator status to some sections + game moderator status.
Super Moderator.
Has forum moderator status to all sections + game moderator status + a few more advanced access for basic things like being able to edit a players forum profile to remove offending signatures or avatars, etc..
+ There is also support, which handle the game bans for TK's etc..

Mods cant effect game play very much, They can
Chat ban a player in game
& Forum mute a player with a Forum RO (Read only) ban.
Neither effects game play very much.
The chat ban does effect the ability to communicate within the game. But we all know clanwar teams will be organized and on teamspeak or ventrilo and any organized clan wont be using in game chat to type while playing anyway.. Map pinging is also disabled by a in game chat ban, but again its pretty easy to say arty is at A8 on teamspeak, so a lack of pinging wont effect clanwars much either..
But anyway, the real point is, In general a moderator whether they are paid or a volunteer could be good or bad, unbiased or an ass. At least WOT is making reasonably large efforts to ensure the mods are sufficient in number, trained up sufficiently, and acting professionally and in an unbiased manner, to have a decent mod team by release.
And like any other situation, if a moderator acts biasedly, or unprofessionally, or incorrectly in any way. Report it to support who will look into the situation. Reverse the moderators decision if needed, and deal with the moderator if needed.

As for this particular thread..
Its already covered within the gaming rules.

Quote 4.5 Restrictions on Administrators and Moderators
Administrators and support staff being official employee's are representatives of Wargaming.net, are allowed to play but not partake in clans and clan wars.
Moderators however are not official employee's of Wargaming.net and recruited from the player base. They have no special abilities in game to give them any advantage, other than the ability to issue chat bans within the game. So there is no need to limit moderators participation within clans or clan-wars. If users believe a moderator to be biased in any way or acted inappropriately, they are to send the details to support via the website (http://support.worldoftanks.com) or by sending an email to support@worldoftanks.com and it shall be looked at and dealt with by administrators if needed.

Tanitha: A lot of work has been done over the past couple of months on improving the moderator team and getting it ready for release. Including the development of a moderator recruiting and training section.
There has been many many moderators recruited and trained recently, as well as almost as many being removed.
All in all the moderator team has undergone a reasonably large overhaul, resulting in a much improved and better team of mods, although I'm sure players who have been sanctioned recently will disagree : )
Either way,, its my honest opinion that the WOT players will be better served by a unpaid group of volunteer's who are here to help because they love the game and love to help. Rather than the moderator being a paid team who are only here for 8 hours a day as a job solely for the paycheck. At least we are hardcore players who have played 1000's of game and know the game that we are modding..

As for advantages mods have over players.
Mods info is from reading overlords forum posts, the wot website, all the forum posts, wot's blog, Etc.
Anyone is welcome to also read this, and get the information we get, from where we get it from. Its not an advantage.
But on the other hand. Modding is a huge job, One that I often dedicate 4 - 12 hours a day to. If i wasn't modding that would be 4-12 hours a day extra I would be playing. And im not sure how spending 90% of your online time in WOT modding the forums is a advantage... The players who don't mod who spend all their time in game obviously have an advantage over the mods who are now short of time due to the time consuming modding job they help with..
As it is, I don't believe i will be able to keep up with leveling my vehicle and modding at the same time, to compete in clanwars. So being faced with the option of, mod, or play clan-wars, because you cant do both... Ive recently decided to withdraw from the clan wars due to lack of time to level up, due to modding taking most of my time. HUGE ADVANTAGE for mods, huh? : )
Anyway.. Its a fair concern, but an unjustified one IMO..
So don't stress, and have fun with WOT and clanwars..
