Chewie, on 05 January 2011 - 05:09 PM, said: That is very interesting. I had no idea that was accounted for. So,
just to make sure I'm not missing something else, the variables for
achieving penetration are:
1 - Shell penetration
2 - Thickness of armor
3 - Angle of incidence (including slope and angle of attack)
4 - Distance from target
5 - Shell normalization
6 - +-25% variance on shell penetration
Am I missing anything?
EDIT - Added variation. Thanks RimtuTiTuki

Overlord: Seems like all inclusive.
One more example:
Take "beloved" IS-4 and 10.5 cm L/68 gun for KT. (distance - 100m, AP shells, shooting from the front)
1) front hull armor of IS-4: 160mm@60deg
2) 10.5 cm L/68 gun - 225mm penetration, with 25% random it makes - from 169,75mm to 281.25mm
3) take account of normalization effect of the shell, for 10.5 cm L/68 it is 10deg, so the armor slope of IS-4 with normlization is 60-10=50deg
4) IS-4 effective armor: 160 * (1/cos(50)) = 249mm. approx 5/6 of shots won't penetrate (normal distribution)
