As for the small sample size of polls on the forums, I would like to point out that it was shown in one of my classes last year that only 40 people were needed for an accurate (enough to be used) random poll of the US population. Obviously participants in the polls on the forums here self-select quite a bit, but they key point I've seen in all of them is that the majority of players in every one has felt that Soviet tanks are superior. That sort of consistancy can not be discounted. Things easily may not be as bad as the polls indicate, but clearly there is a problem to cause those sorts of results.
As for the numbers of tanks used Overlord quotes, I would be curious to know how the numbers shape up by tier. I am not surprised that German tanks lead the way in overall use, in my experiance new players are far more likely to try out them followed by US. The Soviet line is the most common 2nd line, and with the ability to just get new tank bays in your garage there is no need to toss away the tanks of your first nation which means they continue to add to the stats. However, I would be very surprised if there is not a large discrepency when comparing the overall numbers to the numbers for the top tiers only. I generally only see a Maus a week if not even rarer, T-30's every other day at least, but I see multiple IS-7's every day. Things are not as bad with the Mediums, but still bad. While I do see Pershings daily, and Panther II's in multiple matches each day, there are often multiple T-54's in single matches. If a softwipe were to happen to day, I am confident we would see a large shift from German to Soviet, and away from SPGs in general.

That's why before making any changes we think twice. The current US tech tree is not perfect, especially this aplies to top heavy line from T-29 to T-30. Some of the suggestions posted in this thread are very likely to be implemented in future as well as some of our own ideas.
All 3 current tech tress are going to modified and improved, the changes affect vehicle tier, type, specs etc, moreover some completely new models are going to be added. US tree will undergo the most substantial changes.
Can't reveal much at the moment, apart form the following:
- Super Pershing. Might be added as a separate tank or as a set of upgrades for Pershing itself.
- M103. Likely to be added.
- T58, M47, M48. Have some ideas on them.
