The developers release the first beta of the game. The beta-testers play the game and give their feedback. Based on this the developers modify the game and release a new version, asking the players to test the new features. The beta-testers then test this and give their feedback. Based on this the developers modify the game again and so it goes on and on through a number of iterations until the developers and the testers are sure that the bugs have been removed and that the game is fairly balanced.
As I said above, what we're doing now feels somewhat closer to a stress-test than a "proper" beta-test as our feedback, except for the server side logs, is apparently neither needed nor wanted...

MrVic: Beta Testers (I myself am one) and their feedback matters, but you can't base your changes purely upon that. Its part of the puzzle not the method to do the puzzle.
The basic problem is Beta Testers have no real permanent stock in a game. We come and wego, we play we take breaks. At the end of the day Tuesday is just a Tuesday and WoT is just entertainment. For the Devs they live and breath the game, its what they do all day and in some cases all night. Its their life and their baby to protect. Putting full control in the hands of players that have no actual stock in the game beyond entertainment values, is to a risky proposition and not one almost any company would get behind. Feedback and Data create a better basis for changes. If you have no value for the data personally you probably will never find this to be agreeable.
