MrVic's Wall O Text

MrVic: MrVic's Wall O Text, Just some personal thoughts I have had and figured I would post up and maybe be helpful to some in some way.
After looking over the some of the comments again today regarding all the RU tanks type comments, it shows quite well I think were some of the claims are going off track sometimes in the WoT world. I am History buff and very interested in tank designs and tech. I think many people have interposed some of the highlight reel in history
with some tanks with how they envision its performance. Tiger Tiger II ect are some of my favorite tanks of all time. They were awesome
machines, even with some of the flaws they had they were great set pieces in the history of tank warfare.
With that said, I like them myself this is were people go astray.
WoT strives to keep as close to historical accuracy of "Tanks". A tank is a machine, it has no people in it, its a mechanical device, Its purely a metal machine.
The influences of a theater of war are not part of it. Ammo shortages, Fuel shortages, Crew training, Offensive or Defensive fights, Support units (Air/Infantry/Artillery), Bad Tactical Choices, Shortage of Metals and Alloy components, Maintenance issues, Break downs, Faulty parts, Imbalance between two opposing forces and many many more "variables" that exist in the realm of a World at War.
WoT works to recreate them in peak historical performance of the tank. This is where people run into problems, in separating "Historical Tank" and "Tanks in Historical Situations" The "Historical Tank" is just that a tank performance based on its core design and parts. It does not suffer from its crews abilities, it suffers from our control. It does not suffer from undersized transmission break downs in battle, it just fights as tho it was in perfect maintenance. The "Tanks in Historical Situations"
are Tanks performing in certain exact point in history. Its opposition along with all the previous listed variables all play a factor in how it performed in that very specific fight. The Tiger I was a beast in history, It faced off against tanks that were inferior and in situations that usually benefited it to perform amazingly for example.
World of Tanks is about the tanks. So while a Tiger I for example was an amazing weapon of destruction vs a Lee and M4 Sherman. Placing a Tiger I at the same Tier as a M4 Sherman really would not be balanced. So due to its abilities its placed higher in the tier trees more benefiting its abilities. While at first you jump in this tank and expect to relive Battle of Villers-Bocage, but would you really want to be in the cromwell facing down a tiger on main street? Probably not, WoT works to bring each tank into a balance and as such you fight tanks in a similar level of ability and performance. Not necessarily its normal opponent, a great tank will fight later designed tanks since it was that good. Keep in mind all tanks have strengths and weaknesses. If they weren't differences the tanks would mostly be cosmetic skin over a "Token Tier 7 Heavy Tank 001" Things are being assessed and worked on, helpful information speeds up the process clinging to the later side of things the "Tanks in Historical situations" just leads to bury the good info and feedback since it really does not apply at all or well to the given situation.
World of Tanks Beta. Yes I said it, I said beta. I know no one likes to hear this but its what were really doing. Our battle performance helps identify and test issues in the game. Tank models not performing correctly, Armor model errors are found, Game mechanics are improved and broken as they are changed. WoT has changed immensely as we have played. Just one example Warping Tanks were worked on and game engine updated and the problem fixed. This caused some other issues in the faster tank lines and other issues in the spotting system. This spurred work towards fixing this situation. This is the essence of a beta. Some problems are easier to adjust or fix, Others require lots of work and time to get developed so their a complete fix instead of a flawed partial fix. WoT is addictive its servers are really stable for a Beta and were all eager to start playing live and have more game modes, tanks and more fun and more of everything! For now we can do our part and play which creates game data for adjusting and provide good constructive information.
Good example is accuracy and understanding of the game goes along way. The hardest part is Internet sites are not controlled of fully checked for historical accuracy. There just made by people and some have good info other have incorrect info, there is no way to tell. You have to really dig to original documents for the best info. So be careful what you base your info off of. You could just be reading a cut and paste of someones flawed opinion. If you really read into sites and research Tanks on the web you will notice most sites are cut and pastes of user generated posts nothing more and much of it does not even match the actual citation they reference if you look at the orginal documents, its rather depressing and funny.
One thing I hope to see more of is good well written posts with well developed points of view. I know everyone gets upset in game and has rage moments were human it happens, the trick is to take a moment and consider things from all points of view not just from the perspective you just got rammed by a Light tank while being shot with a 152mm cannon while a SPG round smashes into your turret. Such things happen, when you are killed by a invisible tank in a bush 50 feet away, keep in mind its going to be fixed and its just a unlucky death, keep some solace in the fact it wasn't a reflection on your skill just a bug. The Russian Dev bias remarks really do no good also. The worst part about them is their actually off base since the Dev staff is over 80% Not Russian. Also consider things are changing its just not instant, also the holiday season is a rough time of year around the world, things slow down for a bit so people can spend time with their family and friends and everyone deserves that time. They worked hard to sneak out the Tier 9 mediums way early just so we could play with them and see what we thought of them, the nice gift for testing I think was taken by us and spit back out at them, instead of understanding the gave them to us before all the internal testing was completed and keeping that in mind while we test them. The additions ect to the US tree that are in the works I am eager to see, it just goes to show its about Tanks nothing more nothing less and they just need time to improve the game to a level higher then even our expectations.
Have you hugged a Dev today? (I am not a dev sooo no hugs for me)
Thanks for your time,
MrVic
