The whole matchmaker thing...

seems to me there is a huge variance in terms of server populations
between regions, and even within the two NA servers.
Given this, it seems highly unlikely that server population
was part of the equation - or if it was, it's certainly not
optimized per server. This is aside from the fact that
given that tier spread is primarily a balance issue, I doubt
the game designers would have left it to an external factor.
Another way to think about it is... what if the game started
with +1/-1? And now it was proposed that it'd increase to
+2/-2 - I suspect people would not like the proposal. These
types of hypotheticals are often a good way to evaluate an existing
situation from an alternate perspective.Lert: You make very fair points. The MM spread being reduced to
+/-2 from +/-3 could even have to do with the amount of vehicles in
the game, as MM has been reduced as the amount of vehicles in the
game grew. Correlation =/= causation, but it's still noteworthy,
and somewhat realistic to think that WG would want to keep the
spread at a level where you meet a highly varying diversity of
vehicles, as I said earlier.

and GM's response being, "Everyone's GM car catches on fire and
it's fair."Lert: I don't think that's a fair comparison at all. GM's catching
fire (where competitor doesn't) is unequivocally a bad thing, while
many arguments can be (and have been) made for +/-2 MM spread as
opposed to +/-1 or same-tier.
