interesting feature that made them fun to play) So the result
is for every 5 maps produced, 2 or 3 are yanked not long after and
reworked for another long period before being re-release again

Map design is not an easy endeavor. You have to create interesting locals that don't favor one side or another. Maps that were removed had this problem where one spawn point had an advantage over the other. Other issues like players getting to places they were not supposed to be. There is an entire degree specialization based on this in order to create a great play experience and even then there is no way to make everyone happy. Some players want 0 corridors and a flat plain with 0 hills to battle it out while other players are okay with corridors as long as there is a flanking option to back door the enemy team.
