Clan Invitational Bracket

Hypnotik: For those of you wondering, yes, of course I'm reading this topic.
For sure there are a few minor changes to the tournament
that I would make for the next one (and yes, I agree, there has to
be a next one). I will be organizing a meeting for the teams
involved to go over this tournament, and all of the little details
of it, so that everyone who was involved can have their say. Start
thinking about how you would format it, how you would seed it, how
you would like qualifications to be earned for the tournament. Any
of the little things that could make that big difference and turn
this into an even more successful event. Unfortunately, due to
scheduling of all of the parties involved here at WGA, this will
probably have to be after PAX. I will address two issues
ahead of time. Training room/tournament options (such as the
need for 14 instead of 15 players, fog of war, etc.) - I've been
working on showing the need for this for quite a while, and one of
the benefits of the Map Exhibition series of tournaments and this
event itself is that it is showing that there is a foundation of
players looking for events like this that mimic CW rules (as
closely as we can, currently). What can you do to help? Keep
playing in these types of events to help show that they are also
sustainable resources for you to entertain yourself, and watch the
next major clan tournament. The viewership that we saw this weekend
is a good showing of support for this, and I imagine it will only
grow in upcoming tourneys as well. The seeding for this
tournament - Several people suggested to just use the clan rating
system. As a bit of history, development of such a system had been
one of the priorities I started this job with (and the same goes
for Q, too) - even though it was on the dartboard already, the two
of us pushed for it to get done quite often, and I'm sure the devs
at HQ can confirm that we were as annoying as we could be about it.
When I found out early this year that it was finally going to get
done, we were ecstatic. There are two issues that caused us not to
use it this time around; 1) During the planning process of this
tourney (concepts began in February, btw) and until a little while
before it came out, we were unsure of the exact release date; and
2) Even after it came out, we wanted to give it time to ensure the
integrity and stability of the Clan Rating system before planning
any events around it. In hindsight, I can look at it and say that
that would have likely turned into a fairly interesting bracket
setup, but I made the decision to go a different way - a bracket in
which your method of qualification determined where you would be
placed (based mostly on difficulty of the task, how many
competitors were likely to attempt to achieve it, which event they
qualified in and what the competition level was likely to be at in
there, and you may have also noticed that no two clans that
qualified during the same event faced each other in round 1).
Sorry for the wall of text, hopefully it answers a few
questions you guys might have had and can make you guys see a
little bit better why things were the way they were this time
around, and that I won't stop working on improving stuff around
here for clans. -Hyp
