Also, in your comparison you compare the 4th of July with Victory Day (also known as VE Day).  This is not a US vs Russian comparison, this is a US specific vs general Allied event.  VE Day is recognized on many calendars in the US, but it is not an "observed holiday" on most corporate or governmental schedules.

GeneralDirection: This. Victory Day signifies the end of World War II in Europe. I dare say that was one of the most important dates in the history of mankind. It's actually a shame it's not a world holiday.
