Why do Some Argue Against Skill Based MM?

View PostImBonzo, on Jun 03 2021 - 22:50, said: As an evil user of XVM (yeah, I use it. And play arty. Shut-up), my hope is to not see MM provide matches like the following to ANYONE: > A tier 8 game in which one team had 5 above average, unplatooned, players (green and above), and no tomatoes. The other team had 1 green player and 2 tomatoes. I, and most of my crappy colleagues, would prefer that the "wealth" be spread. In this example, team A had a "yellow" Lansen player and team B had a "blue" one. Why couldn't MM swap those two?? Plus one other similar trade, making 3 above average vs. 3 above average. And, I am not saying only address the above-average players, but want to make my example more clear. One of 2 things are most likely to happen in the above game: the above average players will dominate and the less-than on their team will run around catching crumbs. In that case, the other team's lowly players don't "just get better" by being wiped out and the same team's crumb-catchers don't either. -OR- The "good" players will sit in the back, let their "lowly" players fight and die, then swoop in to clean up the mess to improve their P/R.  > a Tier 8-10 battle: Team A had a "blue" and a "green" in Tier 10, a platoon of 2 tier 9 heavies (one "purple" and one "blue" ), a "green" tier 9 TD player, and a "blue" tier 8 MT player. The rest were "yellow" or worse, including one tomato tier 8 TD player. Team B had one tier 10 "green" MT player. The rest were "yellow" or worse, including a tomato tier 8 TD player. The outcome is obvious. The frustration on Team B, equally so. Why does this need to happen? It doesn't. If one team has a stellar platoon, why not WHEN POSSIBLE offset that with random players of similar abilities on the other team? The difference in sum of the P/Rs or other performance measurements must have been huge. I would advocate total team (pick a performance measurement)s be within 10-15% whenever possible.

Random battles can still be random as to with whom you play, the equipment brought into the battle, etc., but with a mild LSBMM (Loosely Skill Based MM).

DeviouslyCursed:  No. You want good players to give up the advantage they create with their consistent contribution, and saddle them with more worse players then other people get. No. If you don't think Random MM is fair, get better, it will let your skill shine. If you keep playing poorly, your win rate suffers, as it should.
