I know you (WG) don't want to tie players to individual teams for tournaments, etc. You know you can still tie them in to a category, not a particular team. You would need to rank the players individually. The players themselves need ELO rankings or the team ELO rankings mean jack nothing. If you ELO rank the players, then there is no reason to keep (not required, can still do obviously) the teams ranked. the team rankings come from the players that make up that team at any given time, NOT based on history. For instance, Victorious Secret is not ELO ranked at this time......so, every tournament they join and throws off the goals of using ELO in the first place. However, is each player has a visible, or hidden ELO ranking and forms the team......they are automatically assigned a value for the team and seeded appropriately. There is none of this "considered 1200 ranking", etc, etc.
Point is, if the players that make up a team TODAY are not ELO ranked, who cares about an ELO ranking for a team. It's meaningless.
Captain_Judo: You raise legitimate concerns with this current system. But I don't
think this solution is just realistic at our current capacity. Even
using XVM, as you point out later, we would still need to manually
gather the data for each player.
As we've said before, we introduced a ranking system with full intention of allowing it to evolve. I think before we look for solutions, let's gather feedback from what the source of the problems are.
Keep in mind that this system currently only seeds teams for challenges and classic tournaments.
