It wasnt until someone told me my stats were good and getting clan a invite to BLUE that I started to care about winning; and TBH, I wish it never happened that I relized stats were being kept in the game as I didn't know at that time. All I cared about was pressing that battle button and playing the game with a 4 tier spread and I had no complaints.    Once I got hooked on needing to win and being a stat [edited], the game sucked royally as also the quality of games took a big downturn when higer tiers became a crap fest of poor quality wash and repeat games. My RSI hands could also not hande the EBR's any more and the game got severly monetized.
