8.0 Video - Q&A by Storm

Дата: 27.09.2012 19:08:05
supercharge: Hi guys,
Here is a new thread dedicated to 8.0 release. Michael Jivets - Producer for World of Tanks - is answering some of your questions regarding the update.
All questions have been included in the ASAP video.

Why when clicking “T” can’t you see “Attack” anymore?
In 8.0, we’ve changed  the function of this marker. Now when tank commanders want to give this order they will see message “Support by fire”, but if the SPG drivers do the same, you will see “Attack” command. By
default, it’s F2 button. But if you want you can change it, just open your in game settings, find this option in the keybinds  and alter it however you’d prefer.
Why didn’t I receive Boelter’s medal?
In 8.0, this medal has been removed. I don’t know, maybe it was a good decision. We replaced this medal with medals for a larger number of destroyed enemy vehicles.  Now we have two medals: The Redley Walters Medal and the Pool's Medal.  The Redley Walters Medal is awarded for destroying 8-9 enemy vehicles, and the Pool’s Medal  is awarded for 10-14 destroyed vehicles.  The Boelter’s medal will no-longer be awarded.
Will we still be able to keep any Boelter’s Medals received earlier?
Yes, you will. They will be still visible in your statistics as before.
Why did players who have previously met the requirements for the new medals, not get them awarded when update 8.0 is live?
Sadly, in this case it was too much of a technical hurdle to award those medals. It would have required a lot of complex work with the database. We just didn’t have enough time to do it.
What about the new medals  “Brothers in Arms” and “Crucial Contribution”?
These medals are for platoon drivers only.  “Brothers in Arms,” you receive if every member of your platoon destroys at least 3 enemy vehicles in a given battle and stays alive.  “Crucial Contribution” is granted if your platoon kills 12 or more vehicles.
Why have my old camouflages disappeared?
With Version 8.0, any old camouflages have been removed from tanks and sold back for their original purchase prices.  This means that if player initially bought it for gold, he will get back exactly the same gold amount he spent.   The same is obviously true for silver camouflages.  Players will be reimbursed with the full amount of the silver spent in this case.
How do the new camouflages work?
There are obviously some notable differences between the old and new camouflages.  Now, instead one single camouflage per tank, you can choose up to three of them.  This choice depends on the kind of map you play on.  There are “green” (we call them “green,” in-game they are called “Summer”), desert, and winter maps.  When purchased and starting a battle on these types of maps, the proper camouflage pattern will be automatically activated on your tank.  For example, if you bought winter camo, it will be activated on winter maps only (Erlenberg or Arctic Region).  If you bought “desert” camo, it will be activated when playing on such maps as Sand River or El Halluf.   When playing on “green” maps like Karelia, Malinovka, Westfield, and Siegfried’s Line (I think it’s almost 80% of all our maps), you could profit from “green” camo.  Additionally, all camouflages, whether purchased for gold or silver credits, give an actual 5% camouflage bonus to your tank.
Why is it that, with the improved graphics, everything on my screen is far too bright?  It’s not very pleasant to play now.
If you have this effect, and everything is now too brightly lit , you should be able to switch off the “Bloom” option in your settings . This setting is responsible for the illumination of objects and in game space, and you can find it within the Graphics settings.
In sniper’s view, my frame-rate is very low .  Do developers have any plans regarding this issue?
We are aware of this problem.  On test server we saw this problem and we did a lot to try to solve it.  For example, during the 4th test server we fixed several issues leading to low frame-rates.  Even so, many players still have this problem.  Regretfully, this is still an issue for many players and we will continue to work on it.  I hope that in the next update (8.1) we will have the issues removed completely.
While playing in platoon, why do I still face Assault and Encounter Battles modes even though I switched them off in my settings?
In version 8.0, those in platoons will still face both of the new game modes regardless of their settings.  In the 8.1 update, we are going to add the possibility that if one of platoon drivers switched off one or both of the modes, the platoon will not be subjected to playing the deselected modes.
I changed markers settings above tanks, but it’s still the same for enemy team tanks like before. Why?
Now, all markers for tanks are divided into three categories.   Before it was just one general option and if you changed any settings it was done for all tanks.  Now, you can separately configure the over-target markers for friendly, enemy and destroyed tanks.
Why is my aim trembling in sniper’s view?
With the 8.0 patch, the option “Enable vehicle vibration in Sniper Mode” was automatically activated.  Just remove this tick from the “Game” settings tab and everything will be alright.
What happened to the tracers in sniper mode? Have they been removed with the improved graphics? It's much harder to shoot blind like this...
Indeed, it became harder and it’s an issue related to the new graphics render.  With the next update, we will fix all tracers and the shells will become visible again.  If it significantly affects your gameplay, you can choose the previous graphics render where all tracers and shells are visible.  This can be done by selecting “Standard” graphics instead of “Improved” from the graphics tab in the settings menu.
I played Siegfried’s Line in Assault mode. There wasn’t a single word about it in patch note. Which other maps have new game modes in the new update?
In 8.0, we brought back Assault mode for Westfield and Siegfried’s Line.  Additionally, we now have Encounter mode battles on Malinovka and Sand River .
