Long_Range_Sniper, on 01 March 2019 - 01:51 PM, said: I know that XVM was originally designed in a niche area of
the game for something else, but once it went mainstream it was
accessed by the whole player spectrum and they use it for other
things. But you can do that anyway. When you die,
look who killed you in the results and then watch the replay All
capabilities that WG provide currently. You don't need XVM to do
what you've described above. It doesn't give you
different information eek, you know that. It gives you not
available through any setting within the vanilla client. We
also know that many high end players don't use it. We know that
once you're decent at the game you can tell a good player from how
they position on maps, how they move their tank etc etc. In
the military they teach you to do something called a combat
estimate. It used to be called an appreciation. It's seven stages
where the result is a decision. It's suitable for all situations
and can be done very dynamically. Part of the process is an
assessment of the "enemy forces". You look at the intelligence you
have on the enemy and factor that into the process. XVM
provides battlefield intelligence to aid decision making. In your
own example you actually acknowledge that by saying you shouldn't
make decisions over "arbitrary colours". In other words, those
colours are factors. XVM therefore provides an edge, as it
provides battlefield intelligence that is not obtainable through
the client. How players use that edge is a different issue. eekeeboo: And you'll know the downside to use XVM to make the judgment
is you never know if the person is actually good or stat
padding/seal clubbing good
And when people in arty for
example focus on the purple player all game, they feel they're
taking out the biggest thread while the 5 heavy tanks all sat next
to each other or pushing one corner can wear down the hp pool of
the teammates etc. But again it is more useful as a
tool to see how you can improve than give you an edge in battle.
Occasionally it can help on whether you underestimate your enemy or
not, but if you rely on that to how you approach the game and the
person you're going to be fighting, you can always fall into a trap
of overconfidence and be heavily punished.
DardaniaWarrior, on 02 March 2019 - 01:50 PM, said: Knowing who your enemy is will help you win the game because
you make sure to eliminate the good players fast. I wonder why WG
defends XVM? In game stats or names should be disabled. eekeeboo: It's not about defending XVM it's about distinguishing what
it does and doesn't give and what benefits it does and doesn't have
and the impact on the game. In this case, in-game stats would be
nice to have disabled if you want to, but at the same time they can
be useful in helping you know who it is you're talking to and how
much they will understand.
_HakunaMatata_, on 02 March 2019 - 02:00 PM, said: What flank are you talking about? When you have sheep
players play top tier 10 who are red, will never do anything to
that flank. They will be there doing nothing because they are RED
on XVM means they have no brains. I have been in many many
situations where players in top tier 10 matches did 0 damage. EVEN
in damn tank like type 5 or Maus. XVM tells me that tier 10 are
BOTS and what I need to do is focus on tier 8/9 because if enemy
has good tier 8/9 and we both have bad tier 10 then a tier 8/9 can
easily kill my tier 10 and we lose. Why is it so hard to understand
this?eekeeboo: Red players can always surprise you. The fact you call them
red players instead of players shows an intrinsic disdain for what
can be new, inexperienced or those who play for fun. Just because
they don't care about a number in an online game they play for fun
and to wind down doesn't make them stupid or bad, it just means
that they have different priorities. You need to distinguish
between those people and bots. I understand it fully, I just don't
agree with you, there's a difference.
