Is World of Tanks Pay 2 Win ?

OMG_Abaddon, on 21 February 2019 - 11:22 PM, said: It's not fair to compare new players with unicums that made
an alternate account, those are two completely separate markets. IA
pro with free account doesn't need to grind the tank he likes,
because he has all of them on his pay2win account. He plays slowly
and makes his plays efficient, loads enough gold to counter a very
small amount of tanks he knows how to counter exactly, all the
weakspots, all the strategy, etc. A free player will say "So
I understand this game is about... you start on a tin can, and
progress down a line, every new tank is better, until you get to
tier 10 and fight other players, right? I want to get this tank, so
I grind all these and get to tier 10 soon enough!" and he doesn't
care about anything other than spending the day playing his cool
T110E5 or whatever, he notices tanks are expensive so cuts costs
everywhere: No gold ammo, no camo (pfff 3% passive camo for 75k
credits!), only equipment that is free to dismount because who
needs rammer and vents anyway when you can finish a CoD match with
35 snap headshots, and sell the tank after it's done researching
the next one because he needs the extra credits and doesn't want
any of the other 9 tanks in the line, only the final one. He
progressively gets less and less credits on more and more expensive
tanks, tier 7 starts to leak money, something goes wrong, player
complains in forums, forumites say he's just bad and should leave,
he leaves with a rant post, forumite collects battle count which is
probably under 3k and <45% winrate. Free player is mad at
game, gives negative reviews, other players don't even bother and
go to Warthunder, say WoT is trash even before trying it because
they hear everyone say it's pay2win and stuff like that.
See, the new player has a very different goal than the streamer who
just made a new 100% free account, even though those people
demonstrate it's possible to win 60% on free accounts since day
one, it's as improbably to do as the latest marathon for 90%
of players. It's not feasible, it's like pretending every single
speedrunner out there represents something, but those are just
state-of-the-art players who want a new challenge, in this case
starting over without spending 1€ to see how good they can be, and
for the entertainment of their followers.eekeeboo: I think you missed the point
Incidentally, some of your facts need to be checked,
including some of the games you mention. The game was also a grind
game with pay to progress, things were changed and there is little
content now in the game you can't earn for free. Premium content is
one of them, in terms of tanks, but this is standard practice for a
lot of games, especially ones as old as WoT. You have
forgotten to actually look at any of the items that make something
pay to win, mostly if you pay you don't win more, and you don't
"not win" by not paying. You don't get access to the ease of life a
person who pays does, but by having to grind more you spend more
time in the game and populate the MM thus providing some benefit to
the game.
