Reporting for Duty

View PostUrQuan, on 02 January 2019 - 02:39 PM, said: Posting this here, as I feel it is more appropriate & relevant here and prevents too much derailing of another thread:   That's a good aim & great to hear. The forum interaction between posters & staff has its ups & down on the WoT forums, with two very dark periods that left many with low confidence in the forum staff. So it is good to see this reply of yours, knowing you are doing your best to improve things. Core of it is that there just have been very few good moderators that have gone beyond 'lock this thread by forum rules' interaction (which in itself is fine, no need to spill more then needed on most locking threads) & do effort to know the community better.  We're not all bad, just a bit jaded by the very long period of non-interaction beyond basics on the English forum (while we can see staff posting in several non-english parts of the forum).  Note that there have been good moderators in the past that did their best to break the mold, but by some of their posts (and yours too) it seems there is also a deeper issue at work as well, where there seems to be little communication between the moderators/staff as well.   No clue if it already exists, but quite some forums tend to have a moderator/staff only section to promote communications between members through this & to draw attention on threads/forum subsections & comments that need to be watched closer. Can also help in managing events, by drawing attention when an issue arises (like the beta badges not working for some) or giving better guidance when an issue pops up (like the recent camo issue with the skorpion that got handled wonderfully by the staff, kudo's to that!) It also helps in recapping a bit when moderators/staff return from holidays & can get a quick catch up by a visit to the moderator/staff only section.

eekeeboo:   For myself I stayed up-to-date with the forums on my holiday while not posting for obvious reasons. I tended to want to keep up-to-date and finger on the pulse with the things in the forums.    One thing I will say is no matter my personal conflicts with some people I always try to reserve the throwing of the rulebook at a person unless they're a repeat offender or break the rules in a big way. There are people here who unfortunately cannot post whom I have no problem with personally but I will not over-rule forum guidelines and rules for personal feelings. It's a slippery slope to slide down rather quickly. Fortunately though I know the community quite well, my absence has meant I don't know it quite as well as I once did. But I feel if I was able to work my way through moderating the WGL channel in the days of 20k viewers and no nightbot and the !type59 spam, I stand a good chance for positive change here.    Communication between staff in regions I can't comment on, as fairly new to this specific team, but I can say each person has their own way of approaching community work and interacting with players, not everyone is as full on or as likely to interact outside of work hours. There are also elements that different game populations have different ways to talk and sometimes it's better to interact little and let people do all the talking. Though I will always endeavour to support people, even if it's just a like of a post that shows reason.
