You will find out that during the initial stages of Barbarossa the unit was attached to the 7th panzer division and on the 6th July during Timoshenko's counter-attack at Lichatschi the unit formed part of the 7th's AT screen and is credited with knocking out 34 T-34's, it's commander Leutnant Engelbert Lattka was credited with 15 of these for which he was awarded the Eisernes Kreuz 1. Klasse.
An interesting aside is that until they were destroyed/lost the 1./schwere Panzerabwehr-Batterie 8 were equipped with the only 2 prototypes of the VK901 or Panzer Selbsfahrlafette 1C 5cm auf panzerkampfwagen II (VK901).
