Tanitha: Ventrilo is the best for clans under 100. But ventrilo servers are
expensive.
Hosting your own ventrilo server only holds 8 i think it is.
For clan's above 100 teamspeak is better, is has a lot of extra control features that ventrilo doesn't have.
Hosting your own teamspeak server holds 32, and can be increased in groups of 32 I think.
Skype is more for phone call type comms, not really for groups of people.
There's also a few others, like mumble, and game tracker.
*Edit, as said below GSC also, but that's what i meant by game-tracker, I think its part of that same company.
