chat mods a question for you
Дата: 25.10.2010 07:21:38

Tanitha: Hi Paimonn, I was chat modding at the time and seen the situation
from start to finish, I think there was 3 mods on at the time but
there could have been 4. You might not have seen that I was on
because the other mod was on top of things, so there was no need
for me to intervene or do any modding.
In that particular situation, I would have also issued a 3 day chat ban, And upon receiving your PM (which Ive read), I would have directed you to email administration (community@worldoftanks.com) to dispute the ban, like the rules state should be done, I wouldn't have reduced the ban.
As you know the game is in beta, What you might not consider is that the rules are in beta as well : ).
The main problem I see with your post, Is that you feel the need to question the rules, or more accurately the mod's interpretation of the rules, and their enforcement upon someone breaking them. It would be nice if things were clearer, so you weren't left wondering these things. I believe that the player rules, moderator guidelines, suggested ban times, etc are getting a overhaul at the moment, So I wont answer or address your questions directly, until that is finished. But we are currently working on making things clearer.
For swearing, at the moment the rules are here.

Quote Do not abuse others, make personal attacks or behave disrespectfully. This prohibition applies to both public threads and private messages (PMs). Disrespect can include
1. flaming;
2. trolling;
3. harassing or defamatory (insultingly refer to others people or groups of people; ongoing harassment to other people or groups of people). Harassment takes many forms, and is not necessarily limited to the type of language used, but the intent. Repeatedly targeting a specific player with harassment can lead to more severe action. The idea behind this is to prevent any one player from consistently being uncomfortable in the World of Tanks forums;
4. profanity;
5. inappropriate language or abbreviations;
6. personal attacks (this includes, but is not limited to, insulting a poster directly);
7. racial, religious, ethnic slurs or language;
8. sexual slurs (sexual preference, pornography, nudity, naked images or adult content); or similar or language.
If a member is found to have participated in such actions, he/she will:
• Be temporarily banned from the World of Tanks forums
• Be given a final warning, any further violations may result in permanent ban from the forums
Tanitha: They state no profanity/swearing.
Id guess the main reasoning for that rule is that.
1. The current chat filter in game, like most chat filters, doesn't work very well. It doesn't censor all the variations of swear words, and it ****'s out valid words. So many people switch the censor off because its so annoying.
2. The forum currently doesn't have any filter, One is being worked on at the moment.
3. The game I believe is currently not rated, so open to all of all ages.
As for the mod's interpretation of the rules, and ban periods applied. Each mod is slightly different.
I personally just verbally warn for anything that I conciser minor. Anything above that a 1 -> 14 day chat ban is placed. If it is very bad chat logs are then forwarded onto Dev's with a request for a temporary game ban or permanent game ban as well.
If it continues after a warning, then its now a different situation, Its not a accidental use of a minor swear word, its premeditated and done purposefully knowing they were just asked not to. In this situation I up the ban times issued, with a minimum of 3 days. To me your situation would have falled into this. Which is why I also would have applied the 3 day ban.
Have a read through the game rules, forum rules, and the Terms of service on the WoT website. you will find many other things covered except swearing, Like discussions on political or religious topics, and the use of caps lock, etc.
With 160k users and rising quickly. Moderation has to be sufficient to keep the place under control.

Quote Agree ... personally I like the US sense of humor but many nationalities don't
Tanitha: Its not a matter of nationality's with moderation, the mod's are
from many countries. I for example am from Australia, and i'm very
used to playing with and swearing with American's. However I limit
my swearing to our clan forums and teamspeak, because its not
allowed in the games forums and game chat. There is a time and
place for swearing, The WoT forums and game chat isn't the place.
If you want to play and swear do it on a ventrilo/teamspeak with
your platoon mates or clan mates.
