Tanitha: Lol.. Nice description. : )
1/2 of it really just is skill/experience. The more you play the more experience you will get, and a lot of those little things you learn will make a big difference to the amount of cash you earn. I felt the same way when I started playing. I used to say to myself something like...
"I hate starting games that have already started, and not right from the beginning, I'll be glad when there is a hard wipe and everyone starts even. Im in the crappy little tank that cant kill anything, and most people can one shot me. Its not my skill level that's the problem because I can shoot them 10 times before they bother to turn around and one shot me. If i had a bigger tank he would be dead by now, and so would a lot of other tanks. this xxxxxxx's"
However 3500+ games later (no it didn't take that long for me to learn) anyway, 3500+ games later, I know the above earlier thoughts were far from the truth. Ive learned a lot since then..
So here's a example.
I have a Tier 9 VK4502 Super Heavy mini mouse, its elite, 100% crew, with 100% fire, 100% repair, Spall Liner, Camo Net, Binoculars. Etc.
My stat's aren't that great in it, because the tank is pretty bad until its fully upgraded and rigged out, and I think that took about 250 games in it. But anyway stats are, 560 games, 694 kills, 613 average exp, 130+ steal walls, 2 top guns including a 9 kill game. Etc..
Since that tank is elite, it means i have the Maus unlocked, and so I just need 6.2 mil credits to buy the maus.
So I'm playing my big tanks to earn the 6 ml credits right? No. wrong, I'm playing my light tanks to earn the cash to buy the tier 10, because they earn more per minute played than the bigger tanks do.
So as I am getting at, After 3500+ games. And a garage full of elite tanks like the T44, VK4502 Etc, i now know that the little low level tanks are the better earners, So I'm playing them to earn the cash to buy my T10, and to deck out my bigger tanks.
So no, you don't need the big tanks to have fun, to earn cash, or to play well, all that is mainly experience that comes with playing more.
By all means play what you suggested for a break.. Games are for fun, So have fun.!
But the figures you mention of "3-5k credits" or "Assuming we can get about 300xp average per match, and about 2k PROFIT per match"
Are pretty low. instead of playing masses of games earning 2-3-5k you might be better to work on streamlining your grind, before you play too many games like that. After you are earning 10+k every game, then you can grind that..
Stat's like this are attainable with practice. Its a T3 tank worth 85k.

Have a read through this.

You might be able to stream line your grind, pick up some tips. While still having fun.
And remember when you are playing... Play, Die, Exit battle and then hop onto the next tank.
Good luck.
have fun..
