level of the tanks you are damaging.
Since you have a bad version of your tank, IE its not upgraded and its crew are probably low percent, and it probably has no upgraded equipment like spall liners, and probably isn't using any "one-use" equipment like repair kits. Then you probably aren't pulling your own weight, compared to tanks your same tier who are decked out.
As you get your crew and upgrades, you will find you start performing much better, and acting like a tank of your tier instead of acting like a tank of a lower tier.
