Holiday Ops 2020: Unwrap Your Boxes!

Sael_:  You gotta build some suspense, come on. :D

View PostTungstenHitman, on 11 December 2019 - 09:15 AM, said: "Portal temporarily unavailable"... For a society making a lot of money, it shows their professional side. WHy the hurry to communicate today ? Crymuch ? WHo asked them to hurry to publish a news if your website is going to have a maintenance ? Level IQ much ?

Sael_:  The downtime for the site was caused by a sizeable peak in traffic. It would have happened if we published it before and it would have happened if we would have waited longer - people are just hyped to know about this.

Sael_:  Indeed. Treat yo self! :D

View Post8126Jakobsson, on 11 December 2019 - 09:36 AM, said: My 2 cents: Only ever buy these boxes if you want cheap gold - because in my experience, you cannot get it any cheaper than this. Do not buy them if you are desperate to get one of those fancy premium tanks - they are not worth gambling for, and besides, sooner or later they will be on sale for cash anyway.   Personally, I will probably buy some boxes to get the gold as I expect a return of the Black Market next year or, in case that doesn't happen, I will snatch the occasional tank for gold in this or next year's Advent Calendar. Those are not reduced, of course, but since the gold is reasonably cheap I'll end up with a little discount anyway.

Sael_:  ^ This is a good approach for everyone looking with skepticism at the gift box mechanics.

View PostToodlePips, on 11 December 2019 - 09:46 AM, said: ... On another - it's really greedy of them not to sell these tanks in the shop directly.   Not to mention that the chances not being disclosed sounds like something illegal in some EU countries.

Sael_:  We are selling a package for completely different goodies and occasionally throwing an incredibly rare tank that's worth at times substantially more on top of it as a pure prize. It's a gift, how is it greedy?Plus we respect the law and you won't see illegal content being promoted in our game and pages - we in fact don't even sell the gift boxes in Belgium.

View PostBastor, on 11 December 2019 - 09:49 AM, said: I like two styles the most (although I just love all of them), New Year (Babushka-carpet style camo) and Christmas (classic gingerbread-style). ...

Sael_:  I saw that the rest of your questions were answered. Just quoting to high-five the good taste in camo. :D #Babushkastyle

View PostGardar7, on 11 December 2019 - 10:18 AM, said: Hi guys, I live in Belgium. I can't buy lootboxes directly (forbidden by law,.. it's gambling etc.) but does somebody know if another player can GIFT me lootboxes? It's the cheapest way of getting some good gold... So, Belgian players still cannot buy any loot box like last year? TBH, it's quite hard to complete the collection of decorations without any paid loot box...which means we have to grind it very hard...   Come on, WG, I just want to buy a 20 Euros box...thats all...

Sael_:  Sorry, it's against the law for Belgium. But you can still receive the boxes as presents, so maybe it's time to start a new WoT campaign: #loveyourbelgiantankerBetter than circumventing the laws of your Country by VPN. ;)

View PostReAlex69, on 11 December 2019 - 11:58 AM, said: Watched the video again. This year there seem to be no nation restrictions (because the Maus was showing off all styles)

Sael_:  Or maybe the camos are just for the Maus (?) just kidding.

View Postantwerp_fighter, on 11 December 2019 - 10:30 AM, said: Sale starts on Friday the 13th luckiest day of the year :)

Sael_:
Yeah... I'm tempted to open my boxes the day after. :P

View PostSchkalli, on 11 December 2019 - 10:42 AM, said: The fastest way is to buy the biggest bundle of boxes of any flavour. But if it is like last year you can mix and match collections to increase festive atmosphere.

Sael_:  On one hand, I like the bonus from completing a specific collection. On the other hand, I like to mix and match to my own taste. Ahh, the Holiday's garage is coming with both joys and dilemmas. :hiding:

View PostGremlin182, on 11 December 2019 - 10:43 AM, said:   Please update the article then, players have to go to the Wargaming support website and check the announcements there to figure that out...

Sael_:  Well, we have introduced the boxes last year, but not in Belgium where they are banned. Nothing changed with the Belgian law for this year, so until nothing changes we assumed it was clear that this is the situation for everyone. We are not the ones creating the condition for the gift boxes to not be sold there. :)

View PostSchkalli, on 11 December 2019 - 11:14 AM, said: Are you serious? You buy 4 tanks, level 8 for 100 euros. You need to be an idiot to give 100 euros for 75 boxes, with a chance to drop a maximum of 1 tank 8.

Sael_:  You're thinking of the gift boxes as a package to buy a tank. That's the wrong way to tackle this special. It's fundamentally a package for gold, other bonuses and Holiday decorations to obtain boosts in the game. Tanks are an occasional gift on top. If you want to buy a package to be guaranteed to receive a tank, this is not an offer for you.

View Postreesku, on 11 December 2019 - 11:16 AM, said: ... I'm hyped for this, I hope WG haven't changed the odds of getting a tank in a box since last year, since we don't know the odds to begin with. Is any WG-employee willing to answer this? I know the odds of getting a tank in a box last year was around 10%, which is pretty okay imo Well you could always ask about the odds, just a thought.

Sael_:  When dear parim1331 says he doesn't have info he means he doesn't have info to share. This is confidential information, sorry. :) However gifts that are more precious tend to be rarer.

View PostFinal_Eclipse, on 11 December 2019 - 11:37 AM, said: I am not saying it's a scam, but clearly the advertisement of the boxes is taking a lot of liberties with the reality: - for instance, the 75 boxes are 100 euros. You are guaranteed to have 75x250 gold = 18750 gold... ....which you can purchase for.....63,9 euros ! Now that's what i call a discount, you buying the gold at 156% price ! (when they say it's 33% discount ) just open your eyes, guys.

Sael_:  No. You get all the money that you spend back. In gold, plus the guaranteed presents - whichever it is that you're assigned, the value always either matches or exceeds your expense. You never lose money, and that's why this is not gambling. If you're buying the gift boxes with the intent of obtaining the gifts on top, you are doing it for the wrong reason. You are buying a specific package - any gift thrown on top is a plus.

View PostAnkot, on 11 December 2019 - 11:50 AM, said: You are guaranteed to get other stuff. What that might entail varies. If you just flat out want gold you shouldnt buy it then. If you want premium time gold and credits then it is perfectly safe to buy those boxes. You have to look at the whole package not just one thing. No. You get guaranteed one of these. But which one you will get depends on its chance. It is what the article means I think.

Sael_:
^Which means that these are both correct.

View Postjabster, on 11 December 2019 - 12:31 PM, said: It would be fair to at least tell us the chances for each item to drop right away, instead of playing with people's expectations and money. How many teenagers these days have learned to spend their money wisely?
...

Sael_:  We  are not playing with anyone's expectation, we offer and have constantly offered explanations over how everything works and why, especially concerning gift boxes - once everything is explained, the choice to buy or not to buy is on the player and the player has the responsibility to pick the offer that they find to be most convenient for them. We have broken down how the gift boxes work, and the vast majority of the players have understood the mechanics and enjoy the content.Belgium laws prevent to offer any kind of boxes to the players and we respect Belgian law, as much as we do respect the rest of each countries' laws. As I wrote already, we do not promote illegal content in our game and platforms and we do not engage in illegal activities. You just got different presents than your friend - no hidden mechanics. You guys can put down the tinfoil hat. ;)
