Purists would ask that you use "Diese Aufschrift" ("this particular inscription you are reading right now") instead of "Die Aufschrift" ("the inscription" in a general sense).
Also, the sentence as it is remains kind of nonsensical, in the way that it doesn't really make the causal connections clear. I mean hey, being nonsense is the point of it anyway. BUT, if you wanted it to be a serious, fully sensible sentence, you'd say "Diese deutsche Aufschrift ist nicht lesbar" (underlining that the text is both unreadable and in German, as a statement of facts) or "Diese Aufschrift ist auf Deutsch nicht lesbar" (underlining that it's not readable because it is in German, but implies that in another language it might be readable).
German is a very silly language in these kinds of things.
