There are a number of reasons, I was giving on the forums. Basically it boils down to 2 bottle necks: internal testing and deployment to main servers. With multiple servers (RU, EU, US, CN, supertest, public test) and multiple releases for each one it gives a completely terrible workload these days. Believe me we won't be having any days off and holidays.
Most likely EU will also get a similar break as US.
