MrConway: I'm sorry to hear that you weren't satisfied with the answer that customer support gave you, sometimes things are unfortunately missed or misunderstood.   What I would suggest is that you simply reopen your support ticket, explain the situation clearly and ask them to have another look. They should be able to restore any missing gold for you without you having to consult your lawyer.
