In Game Competition Idea's !

View PostI_Manth, on 13 March 2013 - 04:24 PM, said: What about some competitions for which you have to register at the forum? Every time I try to enter one of the competitions there is a huge list of players who want to participate. Unfortunally only a few of them can be selected. In the in-game channel people get dissapointed because they just wasted an hour waiting while not even getting in the competition (I recommend you chat with a few friends while keeping one eye at the invitation button). An example might clarify what I mean:

Day 1: A forum thread is opened in which a competition is announced. In this announcement you'll find the rules and a description of the contest. If you want to participate you make a post like "Nice contest, I'd like to be in.". Possibly there will be a few time-slots from which you can choose. This will be nice for people who are at work/school and can't join a competition at 10AM. It will also be nice for people who have clanwars obligations and can't join during the evening.
Day 2: A roster is published on which you can see when to expect your invitation for the competition. It's your job to turn up on time and in the right tank. Let's say you get the 10:15 timeslot. You log in at WoT at 10:08, invites are sent at 10:10 and the event starts at 10:15. Now you don't have to wait an hour for possibly nothing. If people don't accept their invitation before 10:14 mods can select random people from a chat channel like which is now the standard for these competitions, so there will always be enough players. The upside is that the registrated players have a guaranteed spot.
Day 3: The event is held. Mods invite people in accordance with the roster, and if people don't turn up they'll be replaced with people from a chatchannel.
Day 4: Results of event are published on the forums, possibly with a replay or such.

Of course several competitions can be held during the same week, if it's day 1 for Hide and Sneak, it could be day 2 for Duck Hunt, day 3 for a Weird Race and day 4 of another competition.

Advantages:
People who have registered won't waste time hoping to get an invite and statistically likely will miss out.
People who don't register still have a, be it small, chance of getting in. It's possible to run both 'registered contests' and 'standard lucky-to-get-in-contests'.
Disadvantages:
It could be some more hassle on the forums.

Since this would increase the workload for the Community Team perhaps there should come some kind of assistance. If I'm not mistaken players with a good reputation on the forums can be asked to become moderator. Why not ask some players to become 'regional-contest-moderator' (or a better sounding title)? These players will manage threads, make rosters and drive one of the community tanks. Perhaps they can get some gold reward/premium tank for their effort (after all, if the rules state the community team is driving in a Type 62 you'll need one :Smile_blinky: ). If their workschedule allows it Ectar, IPaul72, Supercharge and other members of the community team can always join a competition for some fun. When competitions are completed the regional-contest-managers (we'll have to find a better name for that, perhaps RC-refs?) send the results to the community team which insures that the gold rewards are given to the right people.

IPaul72: Hello there I_Manth
I for one really like this idea, this as been done in a similar way with other communities and worked out quite well this is something that will be implemented for future competitions.
I understand the frustration of the community waiting around in game for a chance and not getting one. However, this being said we do try and get as many in the competitions as possible but without holding an all day event its would be impossible. We never thought for one moment they would be as popular as they are, so now this has happened we are looking at way of making them a more fun and entertaining experience for all the community who attends.
I will of course when posting the new events put your name in the topic as this it will partly come from your ideas.  :Smile_great:
Kind Regards
IPaul72
