Personally, I use it mostly to convert free XP and occasionally
credits if I don't have time to earn them the usual way. Free XP is
very handy to get Sixth Sense right on new crews, it makes playing
tanks that I'm unfamiliar with a bit easier. And of course
unlocking some modules.

a choice: you can get credits by playing with your favorite regular
tank, or a premium tank that you have, convert gold or just
get them in a package from Premium Shop. Whatever floats your boat.
I'm glad to hear that you do not feel like they need to buy these
packages for credits and want to just earn them by playing the
game.
