Falathi: Hello,  as stated above - AP shell that goes through an obstacle loses some of its penetration. In case oh heavy shells the loss may not be all that significant, but for small caliber it can make all the difference between penetration and bounce. Also, smaller caliber shells tend to lose penetration over distance so if you have a smaller caliber shell ( say, 75mm or less ), you shoot through two obstacles to a target 400m away you may get quite a lot of bounces.
