Dakiras: See, I'm a bit on the fence with this one. Sure, some of the arty
could do with individual tweaks here and there, but calling for an
all-out removal of them from the game seems extreme.
As u2020bullet says, arty misses a heck of a lot and often
they will only go for targets that are stationary. Unless, of
course, they're clairvoyant and can predict every movement the
enemy makes. I don't personally play arty, because it's not
a play style I enjoy. I'm a frontline tank player (not so
coincidentally, I do the same in MMORPGs :P but I digress...), but
I can see the merits to having arty on the team. One situation is
when you see similar tanks at a bottleneck on both sides, and
there's no advance. Arty provides the edge.# If you think
purely on a game-design basis, and take the purest 'role' of the
tanks into consideration as to what they're supposed to
be, you get a game like Rock Paper Scissors, except you have no
paper. Just the rocks that stalemate other rocks, and scissors
which, with enough time, could take out the rock... but prolonged
engagement will severely damage the scissors. Removing paper from
the mix completely will actually cripple the game. At least I
believe it would. I don't disagree that arties need a bit of
a tweak on a more individual basis, as opposed to the overall
nerfing. That much I can get on board with, but not removing them
completely. This would just make the games pretty stale and that
camping issue you're referring to will be more prevalent because
there will be no-one punishing stationary targets.
