suggest a few pointers for all Your country was not always
right in every action in the past Neither was the other one This
doesn't meant that they behaved equally badly You have the benefit
of hindsight that wasn't available to decision makers at the time
Pointing out what was wrong, without pointing out what should have
been done instead is pretty pointless Actions in the past may be
justified on the basis of why they were needed then, not
because someone else had done something worse somewhere else,
at some other time You can be proud of your country now (if you
want to) without trying to justify bad stuff that happened in the
past. Read some history. But get the book from a
normal bookseller. Not some "alternative" history from
mydodgynationalistbookshop.com. Dakiras: I agree with the above. Really, hindsight makes everything
different. Knowing the outcomes of history and then considering
what could have happened paints a completely different image.
This thread has been dug up from a long way down the list,
and it was rather contentious to begin with. The thread was left
open because it was borderline, but really there is a Historical
Discussion section now so if you want that, go there. Bear in mind
that the section has rules, and you can't just be a massive, utter
French-word-for-shower cos that'll get you smacked. I'm
going to close this thread because it's just going to get nasty,
and also it's an old topic that maybe shouldn't have been left open
to begin with. Historical Discussions here here, btw.
